Leanne, Zara, Prince and co.

It was such a treat to take photos of Miss Zara and Mr Prince again, but even more special as this time their amazing mother  Leanne joined in at Jameson Park – and her mother, and her brother and his wife and two lovely little children!  We only had about 40 mins to do the shoot so it was a little rushed, but I think we still managed to get some nice shots of all the family together and my new favourite thing to photograph is definitely children!  I don’t think I’ll ever manage to do justice to my models but it’s fun trying and experimenting. Every once in a while you snap and capture something, a look or a face that is well worth keeping…..Hope you enjoy!

The Beach. With Tenille de Beer.

Tenille is down to the last twenty from over a thousand hopefuls in the FHM 2012 model search competition. Two weeks ago I was introduced to her by fellow photographer and friend, Bron Fourie from VanillaPhotography.  Having taken a few snaps of her indoors, I really wanted to set up a beach shoot to make the most of her beautiful beachy blond looks and incredible bikini body. I went for a slightly heavier make-up than the week before, this time applying my fake eyelashes from the Girls Aloud range that I acquired a few months back in London.  Someone recently messaged me asking what foundation I use for my models and  without fail I used Kryolan – the professional make-up brand. It provides perfect coverage, blends brilliantly and doesn’t budge. Be sure to apply a solid setting powder on top though!

We headed to the Umhlanga beach front for the shoot at about 5 pm. Kierran Allen from Ocean Drive Media joined  - always great to meet and work with professional photographers and work as a team so everyone involved gets great shots. From this shoot I wanted to capture a perfectly simple shot – nice lighting, simple positions, little distraction. I’m so inspired at the moment by the simplicity of black and white portraits like the Calvin Klein ads where the model does the talking – hopefully I’m on the right track with these!

Check out Tenilles progress below and for Kierrans shots head to his Facebook Page (His work is well worth a look!):

Blake and Family.

This was the perfect start to the morning last week. I was lucky enough to be apart of this beautiful family shoot before baby and mother jetted back home to cape town. Little Blake was unfortunately ill so we didn’t get quite as many smiles as we would have liked, but for someone at the age of one, on antibiotics with flu, I think he did extremely well in his first photo-shoot. And with a mother this beautiful and with grandparents as lovely and fun and Melanie and Barry, it was hard not to capture a few lovely images. I hope you like.

Photoshop with Willem Oets and Model Shannon Claire Foord

Last weekend I attended the  Photographic Photoshop Workshop with Willem Oets at his studio in Amanzimtoti (http://www.willemoets.com/). People often ask me what program I use to edit my pics and up until now I have used Aperture. However Willem, and just about everyone else who knows anything about photoshop (!) or photography, have said that quite simply, I have to learn Photoshop. Willem holds the most amazing introduction to this program over a weekend workshop that I can not recommend enough to photographers starting out or anyone who has an interest in picking up photography as a hobby. Saturday morning we were given two lovely models to shoot followed by an afternoon and Sunday spent going through the basics and not so basic elements of photoshop. It is absolutely incredible the creative licence photoshop gives you  - so much so I fear the rest of my life may be spent editing! Although having said that, those that have liked or encouraged my photography have always said the same thing – that they love the natural element to my work so I’ll be sure not to get too carried away. Here a few pics from the weekend – HUGE thanks to Willem and his team, and the lovely model Shannon Claire Foord.

Kerry-Lynn Du Pont: Que Model Management

The beautiful Kerry-Lynn from Que Model Management. Kerry and I studied together and she got in touch to do a few portrait shots for her portfolio. She is on the books at Q management as a commercial face, so here we just had some fun and played around with very natural, very smily looks.  As you can probably see from my usual portrait style, smiling doesn’t feature too much (!!) – but this was so much fun. This girl really is gorgeous …such a pleasure to shoot.

10 days in Namibia. 2012 DesertLight Workshop – Paradigm Shift with Philippe Pache

The last 10 days…where to start! I was lucky enough to take part in the amazing Nambian photographic trip hosted by portrait photographer Philippe Pache from Switzerland ( and of course the namibian triplets: Willem Oets, Lydia and Nicole! ). The workshop was called ’Paradigm Shift’ because it promised to alter ones creative paradigm.  Unfortunately I wasn’t exactly there as a photographer  ( for those close to me you will know what I mean!) but of course I managed to sneak a few pics for my collection. I have posted a little mix of portraits, taken by myself but also by fellow photographers on the trip, alongside the most important behind the scenes shots! Huge thanks to my models – Gina, Justine, Debora and Maria..and of course Namibia. This really was an eye opening, invaluable experience from start to finish and meeting my co-models and photographers was the ultimate highlight. Too many fun memories – a few shown below..

Fortunately I became the resident hand and foot model and I just love this picture by Basil…

I just love this photo – taken by the ridiculously talented Christy Lee from Pickle Photography. Just one of her many amazing portrait shots from the workshop….

One by Philippe Pache in the Dina House – in the bath. The models spent alot of time in this bath!!

Justine keeping warm in the car under the Famous Panama hat!

The final image ….Philippe and Willem deciding whether I can pose on top of / and or in the water tank! Of course I tried….pics to follow!

More pics to come…back to editing for now. xx

Ulric and Lauren Algar – A wedding party to remember at the Market!

I had the absolute pleasure of taking the party pics for Ulric and Lauren’s wedding party in Durban at the Market restaurant. They actually married in Cape Town in a small ceremony with close family and decided to throw the reception in Durban a couple of weeks later. Such a brilliant idea!  I worked with Ulric a few months back, so was very happy when he asked me along and even happier when my direction was to have fun and take what ever pics I wanted to….It’s always fun (and amusing!) to watch as the party sets in and to try capture the atmosphere from the sidelines.  A shooter bar, endless canapes, an amazing crowd ….and a beautiful and extremely happy newlywed couple – the perfect party! Here is a censored selection of the pics…Congratulations guys. x

The beautiful Alana gets married – on the beach come rain, wind or storm!

I was so excited to be involved in Alana’s big day. Firstly she is such an amazing person, beautiful inside and out, secondly I’m good friends with her bridesmaid (!), thirdly, I got to team with my favourite hairstylist Laura Halgreen, and finally because as long as I’m not in it, I just love weddings, be it taking the photos or doing the make-up.  The wedding was held at Hotel Izulu in Ballito which is like a secret tropical heaven. Laura and I started early, like 6 am early (!) and worked our way through the bridesmaids, mothers and beautiful flower girl and of course the gorgeous bride. It was a completely stress free morning, despite the darkening clouds and wind threatening Alana’s dream of a beach wedding.  I’m pleased to see that she went ahead with the beach – and  was so happy to see a couple of pictures released by the amazing Jacki Bruniquel today. If these are the first two wedding pictures from the day – I cannot wait to see the rest…….Congratulations Alana and Chris. Wishing you all the happiness together.
